Yasin Malik refused to end his strike, claiming that his case is not being investigated properly.
Separatist leader Yasin Malik has launched a hunger strike inside his cell at Delhi’s infamous Tihar Jail. Malik began his strike this morning in Tihar’s Jail No. 7, alleging that his case is not being investigated properly.
Top jail officials intervened and spoke with Malik to call off his strike but he refused.
In April, 2019, the chief of the terror outfit Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a case related to terror-funding and separatist groups in Jammu and Kashmir.
A year later, in March, 2020, Malik and six of his accomplices were charged under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA), the Arms Act 1959 and Ranbir Penal Code for the attack on 40 Indian Air Force personnel in Rawalpora, Srinagar on January 25, 1990.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi court on May 25 under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Yasin Malik had earlier pleaded guilty to all the charges in a case related to alleged terrorism and secessionist activities that disturbed the Kashmir valley in 2017. On May 19, an NIA court in Delhi convicted him in a terror funding case.
