SDMC has decided to merge 29 schools both morning and evening shifts and to run them in the morning shift only. Read the reason behind this below.
The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to merge 29 schools for both morning and evening shifts and to run them on the morning shift. In these schools, girls used to study on the morning shift and boys on the evening shift. Now, since these schools will be operated on the morning shift, these schools will be in the category of co-ed schools.
With the merger, both girls and boys will study together. Hon’ble Delhi High Court, in its order in 2011, has emphasized running schools in the morning shift on considering that the schools operating on the evening shift are not suitable for students.
Nearly 93000 new students have enrolled in the current session in 568 SDMC schools. There has been a significant increase in the number of students in 29 schools that have been ordered to merge, as the number of students recorded 14549 in 2019, 15327 in 2020-21, and 18303 in 2021-22 in those schools.
Co-ed education will start in the morning shift from April 1, 2022, in these 29 schools.
Chairman of the Education Committee Nitika Sharma said that the move will facilitate students studying in the evening shift as students will get relief from the heat during the afternoon hours.
