Police say it was a 67-year-old Chatham man who died while scuba diving at the Erieau marina on Wednesday morning.
An emergency call was received around 11:30 a.m., after reports he didn’t resurface in the boating channel.
Authorities say multiple emergency crews responded and began search efforts in the water.
Because of conditions in the channel, “specialized equipment and resources were required to assist in the search,” police said in a Friday statement.
The diver’s body was recovered Thursday around 8 a.m. — the same day Erieau’s harbourmaster confirmed the death to CBC News.
“The Chatham-Kent Police Service extends its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic incident.”
