A landlord in Prince Albert who was shot during a contentious eviction last summer has died.
Jim Primeau, 59, was shot in the throat in the backyard of his rental property on the 1900 block of 14th Street W. on June 4. He was at the property that day to ensure a tenant, who the family said had not paid rent for months, had vacated the unit.
Primeau suffered a spinal cord injury and had been in the hospital ever since.
His sister Peggy Epp confirmed to CBC News on Thursday that he died Wednesday afternoon. In a statement to CBC, she said Primeau "fought every day" but never recovered enough to return home.
"Jim was extremely loved by his family and many good friends. It's a tremendous, senseless loss that we will never comprehend," Epp said in the statement.
The Prince Albert Police Service arrested 24-year-old Preston Bird after the shooting. He was charged with aggravated assault, breaching a conditional sentence order and numerous firearms-related charges.
It's not yet clear whether those charges will be upgraded after Primeau's death.
