Moncton quadruple-medallist Courtney Sarault is back in her hometown for a post-Olympic celebration and rest.
Sarault won two silver medals and two bronze in short-track speed skating at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Olympic Games.
She also won a silver medal last weekend at the World Short-Track Speed Skating Championships in Montreal.
On Thursday night, Sarault visited the Arthur-J.-LeBlanc Centre in Dieppe, the rink where she got her start in speed skating, and spent almost two hours talking to people and taking pictures, she said.
Some of the children were so excited that they cried when Sarault surprised them on the ice during practice, said Sandrine Mallais, president of the Codiac Cyclones speed skating club.
Sarault was a member of the club from 2007 to 2016. It currently has about 100 or more members, from beginner to competitive levels, said Mallais.
The City of Dieppe planned to install a banner in the arena to commemorate Sarault’s Olympic performance in a ceremony on Friday at 6:45 p.m.
Being the centre of much attention is an adjustment, said Sarault, but she appreciates it.
“It's all love, so it's OK,” she said.
“The support I have gotten from the community, it's just been so, so special and something that I'll definitely never forget.
“It's definitely been really, really fun to kind of connect with everyone and just share this experience together.”
The City of Moncton has invited the public to gather Saturday afternoon at Downtown Place, outside the Avenir Centre.
“I don’t think the community could be any happier from her performance at the Olympics,” said Isabelle LeBlanc, manager of community services.
Sarault has been very generous with her time, LeBlanc said.
