
SC order on UGC regulations: Government will ensure justice to everybody, says BJP

BJP assures justice for all following Supreme Court's stay on UGC Equity Regulations, emphasizing fairness in higher education.
Reacting to the Supreme Court’s decision to stay the UGC Equity Regulations, the BJP on Friday (January 30, 2026) said justice will be ensured to everyone.
“The Supreme Court has put the UGC regulations in abeyance. The matter is subjudice, it will be inappropriate to comment on the issue,” a BJP spokesperson said.
Supreme Court of India on Thursday (January 29, 2026) kept in abeyance the University Grants Commission (Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2026, which allegedly recognises only caste-based discrimination committed against Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Communities within educational campuses while failing to protect upper castes or general category students.

After mandating pet dog licensing and microchipping, Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) bids to do the same for cattle to curb stray cattle issues and man-animal conflicts in the streets. The civic body has moved to make it compulsory for cattle owners to obtain licenses for their animals across all zones.
