The "Buffy" star capped off her announcement with a riff on a famous line from the '90s supernatural drama.
A reboot of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is no longer in the works, Sarah Michelle Gellar announced.
“So, I am really sad to have to share this, but I wanted you all to hear it from me,” the actor, who was slated to reprise her eponymous role as Buffy Summers, said Saturday in a video posted on Instagram.
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale” was slated to air on Hulu and serve as a sequel to the original ’90s supernatural drama. In her video, Gellar said the streaming service had “decided not to move forward” with the series.
The actor thanked director Chloé Zhao, who has been attached to the reboot as both director and executive producer.
“I never thought I would find myself back in Buffy’s stylish yet affordable boots, and thanks to Chloé, I was reminded how much I love her, and how much she means not only to me, but to all of you,” Gellar said. “And this doesn’t change any of that.”
