Sanju Samson's my dear pondatti message melts hearts after T20 World Cup heroics
India Today
Sanju Samson revealed the personal struggles behind his T20 World Cup 2026 heroics, crediting wife Charulatha's unwavering support as India's Player of the Tournament reflected on triumph, family and mental resilience.
Behind the aggressive, high-risk strokeplay that defined India's T20 World Cup 2026 triumph was a quiet, domestic anchor that kept Sanju Samson from drifting. While the cricketing world celebrated his Player of the Tournament performance – capped by a match-winning 89 in the final on Sunday in Ahmedabad – it was Samson's heartfelt social media tribute to his wife, Charulatha, that cut through the noise of the celebrations and revealed the human cost behind the trophy.
Taking to social media on Monday, Samson penned a tribute to Charulatha that stripped away the glamour of victory to reveal the grit of their marriage.
"Right from the day I met you till this day of my life, thank you so very much for being by my side, loving me for who I am and being absolutely true and honest with me, no matter what I was to the outside world," he wrote.
"Seeing my best side, seeing my worst side, you have seen it all and still stood strong by me. Thank you for understanding how big cricket is in my life and making it the same for you.
"And you have wished and dreamed with the same passion and intensity as I did for this moment. Thank you so very much, my dear Pondattiiiiii (sic)," he added. Screengrab of Sanju Samson's Instagram post
A day after the historic triumph in Ahmedabad, Samson did not head for the bright lights or booming after-parties. Instead, as the dust settled on a tournament that had officially anointed him as one of the world's most dangerous white-ball openers, his first instinct was a quiet return to the comforts of his hometown, Thiruvananthapuram.
