
‘Samba procurement expected to cross 6 lakh tonnes in Thanjavur’

Samba paddy procurement in Thanjavur is projected to exceed six lakh tonnes this season, reports Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation.

Paddy procurement during the current samba season is expected to cross six lakh tonnes in Thanjavur district, according to A. Annadurai, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation.
He inspected the procurement of paddy at Thirunaraiyur, Maruthanallur, Pambapadaiyur, Pasupathikovil and Thiruvaiyaru direct procurement centres and Patteeswaram paddy storage point on Tuesday.
During the current samba season, a total of 4.70 lakh tonnes of paddy has been procured in Thanjavur district so far. As the harvesting has peaked, the Corporation expects procurement of another 1.50 lakh tonnes, he later told media persons.
With 12,000 tonnes of paddy being moved from DPCs to storage points/hulling centres every day through 1,200 lorries, he said a total of 3,500 lorries were deployed for the movement of paddy in and from delta districts apart from engaging the services of five to 10 goods trains from railway junctions/stations across the delta region.
A total of 7.31 lakh tonnes of paddy was moved using the services of goods trains from delta districts between October 2025 and March 8. Around 42% of paddy was moved from Tiruvarur district.
