RRR director SS Rajamouli on Bollywood pressure post Baahubali | Exclusive

RRR director SS Rajamouli on Bollywood pressure post Baahubali | Exclusive

SS Rajamouli became a national sensation post the success of Baahubali. Was there pressure to team up with big-ticket Bollywood actors? The RRR director answers.

SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR, starring Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, among others, hits theatres this week, on March 25, after multiple delays. Rajamouli became a national sensation post the success of Baahubali. There were reports that the director was being offered big money and A-list stars were dialling him up to work with him. However, the filmmaker didn’t succumb to the pressure and kept investing his time and effort into developing the script and storyline for RRR.

In an exclusive conversation with IndiaToday.in, SS Rajamouli spoke about battling Bollywood pressure to team up with big-ticket stars.

When asked how he handled all those calls and dealt with the attention post Baahubali, SS Rajamouli says, “No, there was no pressure. But I am sure when Baahubali was released and when it was playing, as film personalities, they understood that I operate in a different way and almost all of them called or texted me to congratulate me. But it was not like dropping names or anything like that. I had healthy conversations with many of them, if not all. And the way I approach a film is not through actors. I approach the film from the story. And if I have a story and if in the story there is a character that needs a certain actor, I will approach them. It can be a Hindi actor, it can be a Bengali actor, it can be a Malayali actor, it doesn’t matter. If my character needs that actor, I will approach them. I have no ego in that aspect. I cannot bring a big actor on board just to satisfy some economic equations. I don’t work that way. The story drives everything in my film."

RRR is scheduled for a grand release on March 25.
