Writer Sukhmani has opened up about her experience working with R Madhavan on Rocketry: The Nambi Effect. The film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
R Madhavan makes his directorial debut with Rocketry, a film based on Indian scientist Nambi Narayan. The film has been written by the actor himself along with help from co-writers. Rocketry had a world premiere at Cannes Film Festival on May 19 and opened to rave reviews from everyone, including the Indian delegation present at the festival. Among the attendees were Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Nambi himself, AR Rahman, Shekhar Kapur and more.
Speaking to IndiaToday.in about the response to Rocketry and what it meant for them as a team to have the film premiere at Cannes, co-writer Sukhmani Sadana said that it was a dream-come-true moment for them as a team to have their film presented on a huge platform like Cannes.
Sukhmani told IndiaToday.in, "When we got to know that Rocketry has been selected for Cannes, we were so nervous and excited. It was all mixed emotions. I remember Maddy sir called me to tell this and I just kept saying ‘what?’ We were congratulating the team and it felt like a dream-come-true. I think it didn’t sink in that night."
About the response, Sukhmani added, "It has been great. Honestly speaking. Am I nervous?Yes! I have worked in the writer’s team. It is basically all Maddy sir who is the brain child behind this film. He has worked on this film more than anyone else. I am really playing a small part in this but I am still feeling very privileged."
What does this Cannes premiere mean to them as Indian film makers and writers? Sukhmani shared that it is a moment of pride for them. "Our film itself is also kind of patriotic and it speaks about India and puts India in a beautiful light that it deserves to be shining under. There is no better opportunity for us than starting our film at Cannes because people from all across the world come here. It is such a delight for us to show our film and show to the world what India is capable of making and how we as Indians are nothing else. Of course, it’s a day of pride for the entire Rocketry team. We are here to appreciate world cinema."
