Residents of Dindigul ward 29 protest for drinking water supply, leading to officials promising water tankers for temporary relief.
The residents of ward 29 of Dindigul Corporation on Wednesday staged a protest seeking the supply of adequate drinking water to the residents.
Most of the waterbodies had gone dry in Dindigul and it had resulted in the residents facing drinking water issues.
Under these circumstances, the residents of ward 29, including those on Gandhiji new road and Adi Shiva kovil street, staged a protest near Aranmanai Kulam. They blocked the road by placing empty water pots. They said that the situation was getting worse with each passing day.
From receiving water for only half an hour a day it had gone to no water supply for the last three days. The Corporation officials had not taken any steps even after the residents had complained to them about the situation, they said.
The residents said that they had staged the protest to draw the attention of the authorities. With the protest continuing for more than half an hour, it led to a traffic jam along the road stretch. On receiving information, the Corporation and the police officials reached the spot.
They told the residents that an alternative arrangement will be made and water would be provided to them through water tankers for now. In the coming days, necessary steps will be taken to ensure that adequate drinking water was supplied to the residents. Following the assurance from the authorities, the protesters dispersed.
