In a relief to Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, the Bombay HC directed the actor duo to file representation against the BMC notice issued to acquire a portion of their bungalow.
The Bombay High Court on Wednesday directed actors Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan to file representation against a notice issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to acquire a portion of their Juhu bungalow.
The BMC has been directed to not take any coercive action on their plan to acquire actor Amitabh Bhachchan's plot of land.
Both Amitabh Bachchan and his wife, Jaya, had approached the High Court praying that the notices issued to them by the BMC be quashed. They also prayed for a perpetual injunction restraining BMC officers from enforcing the notices or taking any action.
Bachchans were issued two notices on April 20, 2017 which stated that certain portions of the plots near their residential property lay within the regular line of the street and that BMC intended to take possession of such land along with the wall and structures thereon.
The Bachchans deputed their representatives to attend the BMC office and inquire about the notices and discuss the matter with BMC officials. They pointed out to the BMC officials that it would be easier for the authorities to widen the street on the opposite side of the location of the plots.
The plea stated that for a period of 4 years and 9 months, till Jan 28, 2022, no action was taken by BMC to implement the notices.
In the meantime, the petitioners assumed that the notices issued were dropped and hence no formal objection was communicated.
