Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday announced that the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) project water would be released for the Rayalaseema region by July 10.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday announced that the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) project water would be released for the Rayalaseema region by July 10. “It is going to be a milestone in our government’s move to make Rayalaseema a water-abundant region. We have so far spent ₹3,873 crore on canal lining and widening works covering 554 kilometres under Phases I and II,” he said.
Addressing a public meeting at Chayapuram village in Uravakonda constituency, Mr. Naidu blamed the previous Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government for a delay of five years in the execution of the project works. “In a very short span, the NDA government fast-tracked the pending works with double the vigour and is nearing completion,” he said.
Stressing on the significance of irrigation to fight drought and uplift the agrarian livelihoods, the Chief Minister said, “When the Polavaram and Banakacharla projects get completed, drought would be a bygone chapter in the Rayalaseema region. Every acre will see a perennial flow of water”.
Terming the HNSS canal, spread over 770 kilometres from Srisailam to Kuppam, “Asia’s longest,” Mr. Naidu said, “Once it becomes fully operational, irrigation water would be a reality to 1.98 lakh acres under Phase I, covering Kurnool, Nandyal, and Anantapur districts. The Phase II will pump water to an additional 4.04 lakh acres in Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, Kadapa, and Chittoor districts”. Water ushers in hope, stability, and prosperity, he added.
Mr. Naidu said that plans were also afoot to recruit 16,000 teachers and extend ₹20,000 support to farmers annually as part of the ‘Annadata Sukhibhava’ initiative. Referring to the P4 initiative (People’s Progress through People’s Participation) aimed at removing poverty by 2029, the Chief Minister called for decentralisation of development, which would empower every individual.

After being repeatedly disrupted for three consecutive days over issues ranging from the Governor’s address and alleged disrespect to the national anthem to demands for the resignation of the Excise Minister, among others, normalcy finally returned to the Legislative Council on Friday, with proceedings commencing.
