Rehman Patel selected for Karnataka Lalitkala Academy Award

The artist has spent two decades working in the Surpur miniature art genre, which flourished under the reign of the Surpur Nayaks from 1773–1858 AD.
Kalaburagi-based artist Rehman Patel has been chosen for the 52nd annual Karnataka State Lalitkala Academy Award for the year 2022–23.
His traditional miniature painting titled Madhyamadi Raga has been selected for the award. The award carries a cash prize of ₹25,000 and a citation.
According to a letter, the Academy states that the award will be presented at Ravindra Kalakshetra in Bengaluru on May 23. On the same day, the award-winning paintings will be exhibited at the Indian Institute of World Culture.
The artist has spent two decades working in the Surpur miniature art genre, which flourished under the reign of the Surpur Nayaks from 1773–1858 AD. In 2002, Mr. Patel received a fellowship from the Union Ministry of Tourism and Culture for his contribution in keeping alive a dying art form.
