Increase in school crimes in Tamil Nadu due to lack of disciplinary powers for teachers, leading to need for stricter measures.
Crimes in schools
Untoward incidents in schools in Tamil Nadu are increasing as heads and teachers not given enough powers to correct the erring students then and there. Now teachers have an additional burden of ‘policing’ - rigorous checking of students’ bags to confiscate banned materials.
The public feel that their pockets must also be carefully checked to find out blades, if any. To prevent these unhappy things, the students must be given moral instruction.
Mischievous students must be singled out and given intensive counselling and psychiatric treatment, if need be. Furthermore, parents and guardians of such students should be periodically invited to school and they should be informed of the nature and activities of their children. If all these are carried out systematically, we will definitely have a better society with well-disciplined student community.
