Ranbir Kapoor reveals dad Rishi wanted him to do more commercial films, hopes he is happy with Shamshera

Ranbir Kapoor has revealed that his father Rishi Kapoor wanted him to do more commercial films. Now, the actor hopes that his late father would be happy with Shamshera.

Ranbir Kapoor is returning to the silver screen after four years. The actor will be seen playing a double role in Shamshera, which is directed by Karan Malhotra. RK has started the promotion of his film in full-swing. During a recent group interview, Ranbir opened up about one complaint that his late father Rishi Kapoor had with him. Besides revealing that, RK mentioned that hopefully his dad would be smiling up there because he has finally done a film, Shamshera, of his choice.

Going down memory lane, Ranbir Kapoor spoke about doing things in his individual way, despite coming from a film family. "What was important for me was when I started working, even though I come from a film family, I had to do things in my individual way. I had to do things that I could relate to. And maybe at a certain time, films like Wake Up Sid, Barfi, Rockstar and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani - these were the films that I was relating to. He [Rishi Kapoor] had to come half-way and even I had to come half-way. When he saw Rockstar, he was like - did the girl die or did she return? When he saw Barfi, he said, 'acting theek kar leta hain tu but try and do more commercial films'. So he always had this complaint with me," revealed Ranbir.

Ranbir further mentioned that back then, he was not convinced to do films like the ones he is doing right now. "If Shamshera came to me 10 years back, I don't think I had the conviction as an actor to pull off a character like this. As an actor, it is very important that you know your role, your lane and that everything happens at a certain time and the right time. Shamshera came at this time and, unfortunately, my father is not there to see [the film]. But hopefully he is up there and smiling that I have finally done a film of his choice," said RK, on a concluding note.

On the work front, Ranbir's movie, Shamshera, will release on the big screen on July 22, 2022.
