Rajkummar Rao says ‘some films are meant for life, some for weekends’ on Badhaai Do being underrated | Exclusive

Rajkummar Rao spoke to IndiaToday.in exclusively about Badhaai Do being an underrated film. The actor is geared up for his next film, Hit: The First Case.

Rajkummar Rao is all set for the release of his next film Hit: The First Case. He will be seen alongside Sanya Malhotra in the film. This is the first time the two have collaborated on a film. Rajkummar and Sanya spoke to IndiaToday.in about their body of work and if a film not doing a 100-crore business at the box office bothers them. Rajkummar's last movie, Badhaai Do, was much appreciated by the audience but failed to do big numbers at the box office. When asked if he feels the film was underrated, Rajkummar told IndiaToday.in that some movies are meant for life.

He said, "Some films are meant for life. And some things are meant for the weekend and a week and then we forget about them after two years. I'm not saying because these are my films. In other films like The Godfather, you know, these films will be there for life, people will be watching them even after 100 years. Similarly, with my films like Shahid or Sanya's Pagglait, you know, people will be watching it even after we are gone. So yes, you have to make your choices."

Rajkummar added, "Nobody can say it with a guarantee that we are making this film and it's going to make 100 crores or 200 crores at the box office. Nobody knows that game. Nobody knows the formula. So what we know is how to make a film with the utmost sincerity and to really give the film whatever you have. That's what makes me happy. I want to go back home after a day's work and think 'you know, I did something good today.' And I feel that I want to feel content doing that job. So I'm gonna just be in that process forever. I started with that. Films like Shahid, Newton, LSD made me happy. But in between, of course, I chose maybe one or two films, where my heart was not there. But yeah, I'm not going to do that anymore. So I'm going to do films where I just want to be happy on being on that set."

Badhaai Do released earlier this year and starred Rajkummar opposite Bhumi Pednekar. Meanwhile, Rajkummar and Sanya's Hit: The First Case will be released on July 15, 2022.
