Rain-related incidents claim lives of 16 sheep, damage paddy on 250 acres in Yadgir

16 sheep killed in rain-related incidents in Yadgir district, causing power outages and crop damage, with compensation promised.
As many as 16 sheep were killed in rain-related incidents across Sharadahalli and Kongandi villages in the Shahapur taluk in Yadgir district in the last 48 hours.
In Sharadahalli, the sheep were killed after being struck by lightning, while in Kongandi, two sheep died after a tin sheet from the roof of the shed fell on them due to gusty wind.
According to Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry Raju Deshmukh, the compensation of ₹5,000 will be released for each dead sheep.
More than 250 electricity poles across the district were uprooted by gusty winds, causing extensive loss to the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (GESCOM). With this, the electricity supply was disrupted in the rural area. The officers and other staff are in swing to restore the electricity supply in the affected areas.
The winds also damaged paddy crops on around 250 acres. The growers, who were about to harvest it shortly, faced loss and demanded compensation.
The Revenue Department will conduct a joint survey with the concerned department to assess the crop damage.
“The survey on paddy crop damage will be conducted from Saturday, and the report on crop loss will be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner for further action,” Umakanth Halle, Tahsildar of Shahapur, has said.
