Puducherry government plans to allot land for industrial development at Sedarapet by July, says Minister

Government plans to allot land in Sedarapet - Karasur villages for industrial development, aiming to boost economy and create jobs.

The government is planning to allot land available at Sedarapet - Karasur villages for industrial development by July, Minister for Home and Industries A. Namassivayam has said.

“We are moving ahead in realising the development of 750-odd acres of land available with the government at Sedarapet - Karasur villages for industrial development. We are hopeful of allotting the land to entrepreneurs by July. The industrial use of the land will help in generating revenue and providing employment opportunities for the youth in Puducherry,” Mr. Namassivayam said here on Friday, at the inaugural of ‘Puduvai Startup Sprint 2025,’ organised by Atal Incubation Centre-PEC Foundation.

Urging students and youth to think big when making career choices, the Minister said there was tremendous scope for entrepreneurship in the country after the Union government started promoting Startup concepts. The Puducherry government was keen on developing the Startup ecosystem through budgetary support. Since its inception in 2019, the Atal Incubation Centre (AIC) in Puducherry has trained 4,500 students. There are around 70 Startups in Puducherry providing employment opportunities to 425 people, he said. 

Stating that around 5,000 students pass out every year from various colleges in the Union Territory, he said majority of the students graduating from institutions here were migrating to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in search of jobs. The government intended to arrest the trend by providing job opportunities for the students locally, the Minister added.

“It is difficult to accommodate all the students passing out from colleges in the government sector. We will encourage the private sector to set up industries in Puducherry. We will also encourage youth to start business ventures and provide space for Startups at Sedarapet. The educational institutions should help students improve their soft skills for making them employable in the private sector,” the Minister said.

The Minister launched the logo of woman entrepreneurship programme and website of AIC. Executive Director of AIC-PEC Foundation and Registrar in-charge of Technological University R. Sundaramurthy and CEO, AIC-PEC Vishnu Varadan V. attended the inaugural session.
