Puducherry government raises housing subsidies to ₹7 lakh for SC and ₹6.25 lakh for general category beneficiaries to support housing development.
The Puducherry government has decided to increase the subsidy component to ₹7 lakh for Scheduled Caste (SC) and to ₹6. 25 lakh for general category beneficiaries for the construction of proper houses in the Union Territory, Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan said here on Monday (January 26, 2026).
In his Republic Day message released to the media after unfurling the national flag at the Gandhi Statue, the Lt. Governor said the government’s housing schemes have already been integrated with Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana after enhancing subsidies to various beneficiaries.
Accordingly, a subsidy of ₹5 lakh was currently provided to beneficiaries belonging to the general category and ₹6.25 lakh to SC category people. Steps are now taken to increase the subsidy amount to ₹6.25 lakh and ₹7 lakh to general category and SC category beneficiaries respectively, the Lt. Governor said.
The monthly financial assistance to women heads of households belonging to below property line families has been enhanced to ₹2,500. For providing the enhanced assistance, an amount of ₹16 crore has been set aside towards monthly expenditure. Around 65,000 families would benefit from the government’s decision, he said.
Similarly, monthly pension for senior citizens and women deserted by their husband’s has been enhanced by ₹500. An additional allocation of ₹9.8 crore has been made for the purpose along with a monthly allocation of ₹55 crore. The enhancement of pension would benefit 1. 92 lakh people, he said.
“Prime Minister’s conviction is that sustainable national development must be inclusive and must encompass every section of society. In line with this vision, social security is being ensured for the marginalised, backward classes, women, persons with disabilities and senior citizens. The government does not view welfare schemes as mere concessions or doles, but as entitlements and social rights of people. Accordingly, the financial assistance provided through all welfare schemes is being enhanced and disbursed.” he said.
