Protesters lock Agra theatres not screening The Kashmir Files

Activists of pro-Hindu outfits demonstrated and placed locks on many cinema halls of Agra for not showing the movie The Kashmir Files.

Bollywood film, The Kashmir Files, has become the subject of a nationwide debate while narrating the tragedy of the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits. While the cinema halls showing this film are drawing the audience in large numbers, activists of pro-Hindu outfits demonstrated and placed locks on many cinema halls of Agra for not showing the movie.

These workers also threatened the theatre operators that if this film is not screened, they would have to face the consequences. The police pacified the protesters but there is an atmosphere of fear among the theatre operators in Agra. They are apprehensive about the safety of their lives and property after the protests demanding screening of the film.

Govind Parashar, president of a pro-Hindu organisation, led a demonstration at the Sanjay Talkies complex in Agra. The protesters locked the cinema hall alleging that the film was not being shown in the cinema halls as part of a conspiracy. They claimed that while films having obscenity and made showing Indian culture in bad light were being screened in all theatres.

Parashar told India Today, “In The Kashmir Files, the reality of the atrocities on Kashmiri Pandits has been shown to everyone. So, this film is not being allowed to be screened at the behest of some bigwigs of Bollywood sitting in Mumbai. If the cinema halls of Agra do not show this film, then no other film will be allowed to run in those cinema halls.”

The Kashmir Files is being screened in four multiplexes and two single-screen cinemas in Agra. According to theatre operators, there is a lot of demand for this film but the film prints are not being sent by the distributor as per demand due to which this film is not playing in all theatres.

The distributor is constantly being approached for the film since March 11, but only one show is being given, which is not enough, they said.
