A protest was staged in Mumbai after the Maharashtra government relocated metro car shed project back to Aarey forest.
Protest erupted again against the Maharashtra government's decision to relocate metro car shed project back to Aarey forest in Mumbai. People held placards of ‘Save Aarey forest’ and raised slogans against the government. A heavy police force has been deployed in the forest area to maintain the law and order situation.
This comes after environmentalists called for a protest after the state government ordered its legal team to inform the Bombay High Court that the state will relocate the metro car shed to Aarey Colony.
Earlier, former CM Uddhav Thackeray had ordered the relocation of the metro car shed from Aarey to Kanjurmarg. The decision to relocate the project back to Aarey was made soon after CM Eknath Shind took the oath.
The Aarey Colony, measuring 1,287 hectares and located adjacent to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, is known as the major green lung of Mumbai. In 2019, the BJP-Shiv Sena government was looking to construct a shed at the site for its ongoing metro project.
