Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has confirmed that his government is preparing to conduct a caste census in the state after the Centre’s refusal to undertake the exercise earlier this year.
Caste census is the buzzword fuelling Bihar politics over the last several months. Now, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has confirmed that his government is preparing to conduct a state-specific exercise after the Centre’s refusal to hold census of castes other than SCs and STs.
Nitish Kumar said that he will soon convene an all-party meeting on the issue of conducting caste census in Bihar, after which the exercise will be initiated in the state. He, however, made it clear that the final decision regarding the caste census would be taken by the state government only after the all-party meeting.

Two years ago, former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina warned of an alleged plot by a 'white man' to establish a Christian state. In 2025, the Mizoram CM said Ukraine war veterans were using the state to enter Myanmar. The arrest of 7 foreign nationals by the NIA has prompted experts to suggest that the incidents might be connected.

Pradyut Bordoloi was a dyed-in-the-wool Congressi who vowed to never leave the party. The physical attack on him in 2025, and the Congress embracing "communal elements" pushed the Lok Sabha MP into joining the BJP. Bordoloi's exit from the Congress after three decades is significant for the party and Assam's politics.
