BJP national general secretary Daggubati Purandeswari has alleged that faulty policies pertaining to power sector have brought industrial and economic progress to a standstill in Andhra Pradesh.
Ms. Purandeswari who came to Srikakulam district on Friday to visit the pending projects was felicitated by BJP State Executive Committee member Nadukuditi Eswara Rao on the NER campus at Ranasthalam.
“The cancellation of Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) by the YSRCP government has messed up the power sector in the State, denying investment opportunities in the power projects. The announcement of power holiday will spell doom for the industrial sector,” Ms. Purandeswari told The Hindu.
The BJP leader said that Andhra Pradesh, once a power surplus State, was now witnessing load shedding and power holidays. “It will lead to closure of many industries as a majority of them do not have captive power plants. The future of the employees and workers also appears bleak as power holiday will certainly take a toll on production,” said Ms. Purandeswari.
Referring to the irrigation projects that have been pending, the BJP leader said that farmers were unhappy with the inordinate delay in the execution of work.
“The Phase II of Vamsadhara project hardly needs ₹40 crore for completion. But, there has been no response from the YSRCP government in this regard. The government has failed in ensuring a decent life of the project evacuees. We will send a detailed note regarding these issues and the diversion of Central funds to the Union government,” she said.
Speaking about the party affairs, Ms. Purandeswari said that mandal and booth-level network was being created to improve the prospects of the party. “We (the BJP) are going to play a major role in Andhra Pradesh in 2024 elections. The Central leadership will decide on alliances and future strategies,” she added.
