Petitioner demands sealing of Shahi Idgah Masjid in Mathura, next hearing on July 1

A fresh plea has been filed in a Mathura court demanding the sealing of Shahi Idgah Masjid. The petitioner claimed the mosque has been built at the place believed to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna.

A fresh plea has been filed in Mathura court seeking sealing of Shahi Idgah Masjid. The petitioners have alleged that the historical evidence about the land, which is claimed as the birthplace of Lord Krishna, is being destroyed and sought sealing of the place.

Advocate Mahendra Pratap Singh, who is the president of Krishna Janma Bhumi Nyas and the plaintiff in the Krishna Janma Bhumi - Idgah dispute, filed an application in the Mathura court, appealing that the Shahi Idgah, which is built on the land claimed as the birthplace of Lord Krishna, be sealed as the opposite party is continuously destroying historical evidence that is crucial in this case.

On Tuesday, a petition was filed in the court of Civil Judge Senior Division, Mathura. Mahendra Pratap Singh alleged that the opposite party, which is the caretaker of the Shahi Idgah, is destroying artifacts that are connected to the birth of Lord Krishna. He claimed that it was imperative that the Shahi Idgah be sealed.

The matter will come up for hearing on July 1.

Talking to India Today, social activist Vijay Upadhyay appealed that these matters are already in the court and if there is any evidence to prove that such activities are taking place inside the Shahi Idgah, it should be placed before the court, instead of seeking a blanket sealing order for the Shahi Idgah.

Earlier, a group of lawyers and law students had filed a plea in a Mathura court demanding that Muslims be restrained from offering prayers at the Shahi Idgah mosque, which they said has been built at the place believed to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna.
