People will decide whether T.N. will have coalition or single-party government: Congress MP

Congress MP B. Manickam Tagore claims Tamil Nadu's future government structure will be determined by the people's choice.

Joining issue with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who has ruled out the Congress’ demand for a coalition government in Tamil Nadu after the 2026 Assembly election, Congress MP B. Manickam Tagore said the people of the State will decide whether teh State would have a coalition government or a single-party government.

In a social media post, the Virudhunagar MP also found fault with the Congress for not having insisted on sharing power with the DMK 20 years ago, with the then Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, after the 2006 elections.

The DMK had then fallen short of a simple majority by winning just 96 Assembly seats out of 234 seats. However, the DMK government completed its full term with the support of 34 Congress MLAs, 18 PMK MLAs, and nine CPI(M) MLAs.

Mr. Tagore said it was the Congress’ fault for having missed the opportunity to have shared power in Tamil Nadu.
