81 offenders held by She Teams in Malkajgiri; DCP urges women to report harassment without fear

She Teams in Malkajgiri apprehended 81 offenders for harassment; DCP encourages women to report incidents without fear.

Eighty-one offenders, including 25 minors, were nabbed by the She Teams of Malkajgiri police for harassing women and girls between January 16 and 31, the police said on Wednesday (February 11).

In addition, 99 complaints were received, including 28 cases of harassment through phone calls, 26 through social media applications, and 45 instances of direct or physical harassment. Eight criminal cases were registered, 25 petty cases were booked and 55 persons were provided counselling.

Counselling sessions for eve-teasers were conducted at the CP Camp Office in LB Nagar under supervision, in the presence of family members and with the assistance of professional counsellors.

Deputy Commissioner of Police for Women Safety T. Usha Rani stated that the police will not spare anyone who harass women and urged victims to come forward and lodge complaints without fear.

Among the significant cases, a private bus driver was arrested and remanded to judicial custody for harassing a woman after misusing her personal details obtained during ticket booking. In another case, a man was arrested for harassing and blackmailing a young woman after she rejected his proposal, threatening to circulate her personal photographs.

She Teams also registered a case against a man accused of stalking and harassing a widow from his neighbourhood. Despite earlier counselling in the presence of elders, he continued to send messages and follow her to her workplace, prompting police action. In a separate incident, an auto driver working with a popular ride hailing platform was taken into custody and booked for allegedly harassing a young working woman over an additional fare demand and refusing to stop the vehicle when she asked to get down.
