Parth Pawar sets eyes on Sharad Pawar's Rajya Sabha seat
India Today
After Ajit Pawar's death, focus shifts to Parth Pawar's preference for a full-term Rajya Sabha seat held by Sharad Pawar, while Sunetra Pawar assumes the role of Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister.
Parth Pawar, later Nationalist Congress Party (AP) chief Ajit Pawar’s son, has his eyes set on veteran politician Sharad Pawar’s Rajya Sabha seat for a full six-year tenure, sources told India Today. Parth is reportedly uninterested in the seat held by his mother, Sunetra Pawar, which expires in 2028, as it offers only a partial term.
Instead, he is focusing on the set of Rajya Sabha vacancies due in April 2026, particularly the seat currently occupied by NCP founder Sharad Pawar.
The political churn comes in the aftermath of Ajit Pawar’s death, which has triggered fresh calculations within Maharashtra’s ruling alliance as well as the broader Pawar family network.
Sources say Parth is keen on securing a complete six-year term rather than entering the Upper House through a shorter tenure.
A high-level meeting held at Vidya Pratishthan in Baramati brought together Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar’s sons, Parth and Jay.
While the gathering included discussions about a memorial for Ajit Pawar, Parth’s Rajya Sabha ambitions reportedly emerged as a central point of attention.

This moment comes days after the Supreme Court allowed Harish Rana to die with dignity – a historic first court-ordered case of passive euthanasia in India. The court acknowledged the medical opinion that Rana will never recover and that the tubes that feed him and keep him alive are only prolonging his pain.
