Both Houses of the Parliament will take up motion of thanks on President Murmu’s address today (February 2, 2026), as the Budget session continues following the presentation of the Union Budget on Sunday (February 1, 2026).
Parliament’s Budget session commenced on January 28, 2026, with the customary President’s address to a joint sitting of both the Houses. Addressing the Parliamentarians, President Murmu had asked MPs to stand as one on issues of national security, Viksit Bharat (developed India) and the campaign for ‘swadeshi’, adding that the government was working towards social justice.

Leader of Opposition (LoP) Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, including Congress MPs Tariq Anwar, Amarinder Raja Warring, Anto Antony, and Jothimani, will speak during the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to reply on February 11. The Government has allotted 18 hours in the Lok Sabha for discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address to the joint session of Parliament during the Budget Session. The discussion will be held on February 2, 3, and 4.
