The Madras Canine Club's dog show celebrated its Golden Jubilee with a grand finale featuring diverse breeds and prestigious awards.
The Madras Canine Club (MCC) concluded its two-day All Breeds Championship Dog Show on Sunday with the grand finale and prize distribution held at St. Bede’s School Cricket Ground, Mylapore, marking the Club’s Golden Jubilee year.
The event featured a comprehensive programme including obedience trials and three specialty shows -- the Indian Breed National Specialty, the Dobermann National Specialty, and the 19th Great Dane Specialty Show.
Over 40 dog breeds from across India participated, ranging from popular retrievers and hounds to indigenous breeds, as well as rarer ones such as the Rhodesian Ridgeback and Basenji.
An international panel of judges officiated the championships, including Andi Hudono (Indonesia), Petru Muntean (Romania), Stefan Mitrevski (Macedonia), John Bryson (Australia), and Gerard Jipping and Tatjana Urek Jipping (the Netherlands). The obedience trials were judged by Manjunath M.R. from India.
The prize distribution ceremony was held on Sunday evening, with Tamil Nadu Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises T.M. Anbarasan and Chennai Mayor R. Priya attending as chief guests.
In the All Breeds Championship, a Siberian Husky (Exhibit No. 220), owned by Abhijit Dutta and Brueva, won the Best in Show title. An Afghan Hound (Exhibit No. 349), owned by Praveen Kumar, secured the second position. In the Dobermann Specialty Show, a Dobermann (Exhibit No. 74), owned by Abhimanyu Reddy and Vasudeva Reddy, was adjudged Best in Show, with the Afghan Hound owned by Mr. Kumar placing second.
