Both Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS), and O Panneerselvam (OPS) submitted representations to the Election Commission (EC) of India on Wednesday. This comes after the AIADMK general council on July 11, expelled OPS from the party and announced EPS as the interim general secretary.
OPS, in his representation to the EC, urged the Chief Election Commissioner to not accept the decisions, or act on resolutions, adopted at the July 11 general council meeting of the AIADMK. OPS has stated that the meeting itself was illegal. He further informed the EC that he was still the coordinator and treasurer of AIADMK.
Meanwhile, EPS’ representation includes the revised setup of the AIADMK, following the decisions taken during the July 11 general council meeting.
Fiasco ensued during the AIADMK general council meeting on July 11, after OPS supporters and EPS supporters clashed outside the party headquarters on Monday. The Chennai Police registered an FIR against 400 people, 200 of EPS’ supporters and 200 of OPS’ supporters.
The Edappadi Palaniswami-led AIADMK also filed a complaint stating that OPS and his supporters had intentionally created violence. The complaint further states that OPS and his followers attack party cadres with “murderous intent.”
The complaint further alleged that several important party documents, which were kept in the party HQ, were taken away in the vehicle that OPS came in.
Meanwhile, OPS, on Tuesday, also wrote to the banks where the AIADMK has fixed and current accounts. He asked the banks not to let anyone except him operate the AIADMK accounts.
