The latest report suggests that more than 200 Android apps on Play Store contain a risky spyware called Facestealer that can not only steal users’ personal data but also Facebook passwords and several other details.
Dangerous spyware makes its way to the Google Play Store every now and then. The latest report from Trend Micro, a cyber security company, suggests that more than 200 Android apps on Play Store contain a risky spyware called Facestealer that can not only steal users’ personal data but also Facebook passwords and several other details.
In addition to over 200 apps with Facestealer spyware, Trend Micro found more than 40 fake cryptocurrency miner apps that were trying to steal crypto money and collect sensitive information without users’ permission. The report noted that some of those apps had over 100,000 installs.
Some of the apps that were collecting sensitive user information unknowingly include Daily Fitness OL, Panorama Camera, Business Meta Manager, Swam Photo, Enjoy Photo Editor, Cryptomining Farm Your own Coin, and Photo Gaming Puzzle.
All these apps have hundreds and thousands of installations. As per the report, Google has taken note of the spyware and removed apps infected with Facestealer immediately. However, users who have any of these apps installed on their smartphone should immediately delete them so they do not collect any more personal details.
Similar incidents have been reported in the past, where Google has removed hundreds and thousands of apps infected with some or the other kind of spyware.
While Google has introduced strict Play store policies in the past, such dangerous spywares find their way to the Play store every now and then. So, one should be extremely careful in installing apps from the Play store on their Android devices. Here are a few points to keep in mind:
Always download apps that are developed by official companies. It is suggested to check the name of the developer.
