West Bengal Police has arrested two Bangladeshi nationals, including the prime suspect in the killing of Osman Hadi, months after they fled across the border. The suspects were tracked down in Bongaon near the India-Bangladesh border after illegally entering India following the December shooting in Dhaka.
The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police has arrested two Bangladeshi nationals, including the prime suspect behind the killing of Bangladesh's anti-India radical leader Osman Hadi, months after they fled across the border following the high-profile shooting in Dhaka.
The arrested men have been identified as Faisal Karim Masud, alias Rahul, and his associate Alamgir Hossain. Police said both men illegally entered India after the killing and were later tracked down in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district.
Osman Hadi was shot in the head by masked gunmen in Dhaka on December 12. He was later flown to Singapore for treatment but died six days later from his injuries.
According to STF, the two suspects were arrested from the Bongaon area near the India-Bangladesh border, where they had taken shelter while attempting to cross back into Bangladesh.
In a statement, the West Bengal STF said the arrests were made after receiving specific intelligence about the presence of two Bangladeshi nationals who had entered India illegally after committing serious crimes in their home country.
"There was secret credible information that two Bangladeshi nationals, after committing serious crimes including extortion and murder in Bangladesh, had fled their country and illegally entered India, and were trying to take shelter in the border area of Bongaon with the intention of crossing back into Bangladesh when an opportunity arises," the STF said in a press release.

This moment comes days after the Supreme Court allowed Harish Rana to die with dignity – a historic first court-ordered case of passive euthanasia in India. The court acknowledged the medical opinion that Rana will never recover and that the tubes that feed him and keep him alive are only prolonging his pain.
