Oppo may launch its rival to Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 in Q3 this year
India Today
Oppo may introduce a flip phone in the Find N series in Q3 2022 and it will reportedly have a clamshell foldable mechanism - something you see on the Galaxy Z Flip 3.
Oppo Find N arrived as the company’s first foldable phone late last year. Although later than some other foldables, the Find N claimed to solve the biggest issues the foldable devices have become synonymous with, such as the crease in the middle and less durability. But it was an old design that Oppo went with. Samsung introduced the design with its first Galaxy Fold over two years ago. So, now Oppo is maybe planning to launch another foldable phone with a design different from the Find N but similar to Samsung’s and Motorola’s foldables.
A report by 91Mobiles has said that Oppo may introduce a flip phone in the Find N series soon. This phone, which does not have a name yet, will have a clamshell foldable mechanism - something you see on the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Moto Razr phones. Not just the design, but Oppo will make this flip phone more suitable for the masses with an affordable price tag on it. In fact, it may be cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. A lower price is not different from what Samsung has done and it is logical because the display real estate is dramatically less than that of big displays on foldable phones.
The Find N flip phone, the report suggests, may arrive sometime in Q3 2022, i.e., before September 30, which is also when Apple announces its flagship iPhone models.
There is a second foldable that Oppo is also working on, according to the report. This foldable phone will be a successor to the Find N that arrived last year. The report does not talk about the specifications and design of this foldable device at this point, so we will have to wait to find out more details. It is early anyway, because the Find N is only around two months old and Oppo would not want to sabotage it by introducing a second foldable with better features.
Oppo’s first foldable phone, Find N, was launched in China last year and even though the company chose not to sell it anywhere else, it did give us a chance to experience the phone. Here is what my colleague thought of the Oppo Find N.
While with Find N, Oppo's debut in the foldable segment seems promising. The landscape design is easy to handle and offers enough for buyers to attract them. Moreover, when folded, the compact form factor is excellent for one-hand operations, something that's slightly tricky with the Galaxy Fold.
