NMC has released a notice regarding the recognition status of online medical courses being offered in China.
Taking cognisance of some universities in China who are issuing notices for admission to MBBS programmes for the current and upcoming academic years, the National Medical Council has issued a notice regarding admission to these courses.
"It has come to the notice of the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India that a few Universities in the People's Republic of China have started issuing notices for admission to MBBS programmes for the current and upcoming academic years," read the official notice.
The council further advised prospective students to be aware that in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government of the People's Republic of China has suspended all visas since November 2020.
The council further informed that Indian students, amongst a large number of international students, have been unable to return to China due to restrictions and that there has been no relaxation of the restrictions yet.
A large number of international students, including Indian students, have not been able to return to China to continue their studies due to these restrictions.
It further informed that the Chinese authorities had earlier said that courses will be conducted online.
Concerning the online classes being offered, the NMC notice read, "As per the extant rules, National Medical Commission does not recognize or approve medical courses done only by online mode."
