NRI rants about family's lavish expectations, reveals his 'dal chawal' reality
India Today
An NRI in Canada ranted about the pressures he faced due to his family's lavish expectations, while he was stuck eating dal chawal 5 days a week.
An Indian man living in Canada shared a post talking about the pressure several non-resident Indians faced from families back home who assume life abroad automatically meant wealth.
He went on to explain how his family had high expectations from the "Canada wala," when it came to contributing towards his cousin's wedding, even though he was surviving on dal chawal everyday.
The post, shared on the subreddit R/Nri, was titled: “My family back home thinks I'm swimming in Canadian dollars. I'm not. And I don't know how to make them understand.”
In the post, the man explained that he has been living in Calgary for about 16 months on a work permit and is earning a stable but far from extravagant income.
“Decent job but not the ‘Canada = rich’ fantasy my family has built in their heads,” he wrote.
The man claimed that he had already sent a significant portion of his income back home each month to support his family.

Over the past week, social media has been abuzz with rumours claiming that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was killed in an Iranian missile strike. However, there remains no credible evidence. It coincided with his reported absence from cabinet meetings. However, Israel has released videos and images to assert that Netanyahu is alive.
