The coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns have wreaked havoc on artists across the country. With no bookings for shows, musicians, singers and artists are living on the edge to survive. The famous Qawwals and Sufi singers from Rampur Gharana, Shahid Niazi and Sami Niazi (Niazi Brothers), who are globally renowned for their music, also suffered financially. They survived on bare minimum throughout the lockdown. Now, the Niazi Brothers are gearing up for online shows with NGO’s help to earn their livelihoods. “Lockdown days have been devastating for us as artists and musicians as we are following the government rules, hence we have not been able to perform in events and gatherings, because they're simply not happening anymore! While the lockdown norms are really important to cut down the spread of coronavirus, but it has also thinned the chances for artists like us to still promote and perform our art,” Shahid Niazi, Lead Artist, Niazi Brothers, said.
