New defence office complex will make work of our forces more convenient and effective: PM Modi

“This is a big step towards the creation of a modern defence enclave in the capital,” the Prime Minister said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated two new defence office complexes of the Defence Ministry located at Africa Avenue and Kasturba Gandhi Marg, in New Delhi, constructed at a cost of ₹775 crore. Over 7000 employees of the Ministry, presently in hutments and old buildings around South Block and North Block, will be moving there soon.
The old hutments are located on 50 acres of land. The new complexes were built in just 13 acres.
“Today, in the 75th year of independence, we are taking an important step towards developing the capital of the country according to the needs and aspirations of the new India,” he said adding that the new Defence Office Complex will make the work of the forces “ more convenient, more effective”
Around 440 MBBS graduates of 2021 are not required to undergo one year of compulsory rural service as per the bond signed by them while joining the medical course through government-quota seats in 2015 as the High Court of Karnataka has said the law, enacted in 2012 for mandatory rural service, remained unenforced for 10 years as it was published in the official gazette only in July 2022.
