Nagaland firing incident: Congress demands Amit Shah's resignation, probe by Guwahati HC judge
India Today
The Congress demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the Nagaland firing incident that claimed the lives of 14 people.
Hitting out at the Centre over the Nagaland firing incident earlier this month, the Congress on Sunday demanded Home Minister Amit Shah's resignation, compensation to the victims and an independent probe headed by a sitting Guwahati High Court judge.
The Opposition party made the demands after a delegation, comprising Congress general secretary Jitendra Singh, the party's Nagaland in-charge Ajoy Kumar and MP Gaurav Gogoi, visited the Dibrugarh Medical College to interact with the relatives of those injured earlier this month in the aftermath of the incident, and submitted a report to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

Two years ago, former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina warned of an alleged plot by a 'white man' to establish a Christian state. In 2025, the Mizoram CM said Ukraine war veterans were using the state to enter Myanmar. The arrest of 7 foreign nationals by the NIA has prompted experts to suggest that the incidents might be connected.

Pradyut Bordoloi was a dyed-in-the-wool Congressi who vowed to never leave the party. The physical attack on him in 2025, and the Congress embracing "communal elements" pushed the Lok Sabha MP into joining the BJP. Bordoloi's exit from the Congress after three decades is significant for the party and Assam's politics.
