
Nadpalu in Udupi district records second highest rainfall in Karnataka

The coastal region, comprising Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts, recorded a cumulative 515 mm actual rainfall against the normal 123 mm rainfall from 8.30 a.m. on March 1 to 8.30 a.m. on May 27. This was 316 % departure (excess), and falls under ‘large excess’ category.
Nadpalu Gram Panchayat in Karkala taluk of Udupi district recorded the second highest rainfall of 144.5 mm in 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on May 28, in Karnataka.
According to Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), the highest rainfall of 145.5 mm was reported from Haanagallu Gram Panchayat in Somwarpet taluk of Kodagu district.
Hakladi Gram Panchayat in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district reported 139.5 mm rainfall while Hemmadi Gram Panchayat in the same taluk recorded 133 mm rainfall.
Chowdlu Gram Panchayat, Somwarpet taluk, Kodagu district recorded 129.5 mm rainfall, and 38 Kalathur Gram Panchayat in Brahmavara taluk, Udupi district, reported 127 mm rainfall.
It said that Karkunje Gram Panchayat, Kundapur taluk recorded 120.5 mm rainfall.

On May 28, the coastal belt received moderate to heavy rains.

After mandating pet dog licensing and microchipping, Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) bids to do the same for cattle to curb stray cattle issues and man-animal conflicts in the streets. The civic body has moved to make it compulsory for cattle owners to obtain licenses for their animals across all zones.
