As life came to a standstill due to landslides on Uttarakhand’s Badrinath highway, a man whose ‘barat’ was stuck for more than two hours, said his bride would get angry if he did not reach for the marriage rituals on time.
The groom and his 'barat' (wedding procession) got stuck in a kilometer-long traffic jam after an entire stretch of the all-weather NH-58 got washed away at Uttarakhand’s Karnaprayag on Wednesday.

Laughing at the situation, a shy groom, Shubham Choudhary, said he was late for his own wedding. “We are receiving phone calls from my in-laws. They are stressed. I have told them that we are stuck in traffic,” he said.
Already two hours late, the groom’s family was hoping to reach the destination within the ‘mahurat’ (auspicious time).
A pandit, accompanying the barat, said the mahurat was till 5 pm only. “We have already been stuck in traffic for two hours,” he said.
