Mumbai weather update: Wet spell continues for third consecutive day; red alert issued for today

Rains continued to lash parts of Mumbai on Thursday, resulting in a drop in temperature. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for rainfall in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad on Friday.

For the third consecutive day, rainfall continued to pound Mumbai on Thursday as the Santacruz observatory of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded 125 mm of rainfall. The city has been witnessing heavy rainfall since Monday, resulting in waterlogging in several areas, further causing inconvenience for commuters.

With continuous rainfall in the city, the temperature remained below the 30-degrees Celsius mark. While the maximum temperature hovered around 27 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature was recorded at 27 degrees Celsius.

The IMD has issued a red alert for rainfall in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad for Friday, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places.

"In the last 3-4 days, central Maharashtra and Konkan regions received good rainfall due to favourable conditions of monsoon. Conditions are expected to remain same for the next 4-5 days," news agency ANI quoted IMD's Jayant Sarkar as saying.
