
Mumbai: More than Rs 65 crore collected as fines from people not wearing masks at public places

Over Rs 65 crore has been collected by the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation), Mumbai Police and the Railways as fines from people not wearing masks at public places.
The BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation), Mumbai Police and the Railways have till date collected a fine of more than Rs 64 crore from citizens for not wearing masks at public places during the Covid-19 pandemic. The institutions impose a fine of Rs 200 whenever a citizen is caught not abiding by the mask rule in public places.
Two years ago, former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina warned of an alleged plot by a 'white man' to establish a Christian state. In 2025, the Mizoram CM said Ukraine war veterans were using the state to enter Myanmar. The arrest of 7 foreign nationals by the NIA has prompted experts to suggest that the incidents might be connected.
