A man shared an unprofessional salary negotiation chat with an HR recruiter online. The WhatsApp conversation triggered debates on recruitment professionalism and candidate respect in India.
A man questioned the hiring practices of Human Resources (HR) after sharing screenshots of what they felt was an unprofessional exchange with a recruiter during a salary negotiation.
The post, shared on the r/IndianWorkplace subreddit under the title “Can anyone be an HR nowadays?”, included a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation between the man and an HR representative.
According to him, the conversation began when the recruiter responded bluntly to their salary expectations. In the chat, the recruiter wrote, “You are not that great for us to provide that much salary” and added, “We need a better candidate profile for that salary.”
Taken aback by the remark, the man responded by questioning the comment directly. “I’m sorry, do we know each other? What made you say that,” the user wrote in the chat.
The recruiter then replied with the phrase “FACT TALK.” The response prompted the candidate to point out the tone of the conversation, reminding the recruiter about maintaining professionalism.
“Try to maintain professionalism, Shiv. You’re an HR, know your limits,” the candidate wrote in the message.
