The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has given MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana seven days to remove the unauthorised construction at their flat in Mumbai's Khar. If they fail to do so, the civic body will take action, it said in a notice.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a notice to MP Navneet Rana and her husband Ravi Rana, who is an MLA in Maharashtra, over illegal construction at their flat in Khar on Saturday.
The civic body has given the Rana couple seven days to remove the unauthorised construction at the flat or face action by the BMC. The civic body said it could remove the unauthorised construction itself and the flat owner may even be imprisoned for a month.
The BMC had sent the Rana couple a notice regarding the same earlier as well.
The BMC notice issued on Saturday said, “You are therefore directed to remove the structure mentioned in the above referred notice within seven days from the receipt of this letter, failing which the same will be removed by the corporation at your risk and cost without any further intimation in the said matter which may please be noted.”
The civic body said that the owner had failed to submit documents such as permissions and approved plans from competent authorities regarding the construction. Hence, the structure was being treated as unauthorised and liable for demolition.
“Further, note that under section 475-A of MMC act, you shall be punished with an imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than one month but which may extend to one year and with a fine which shall not be less than five thousand rupees but which may extend up to twenty-five thousand rupees and in case of continuing offense with further daily fine which may extend to five hundred rupees,” the notice added.
As per the BMC, the problem with the Rana couple’s flat is as follows:
