On Thursday, February 17, a 26-year-old woman and a 13-month-old baby were found hanging in their house at Nacharam in Secunderabad. Her parents allege that she took the extreme step because she was harassed for additional dowry by her in-laws. They have lodged a complaint regarding the same with the police.
The woman was identified as Telugu Deepika, and in 2009, she got married to Telugu Chandrashekar. Ruthvika was born in February 2021.
Nacharam Inspector Kiran Kumar, as quoted by the New Indian Express, said “Deepika’s family had promised a 2 tola gold chain for Ruthvika’s first birthday but failed to give it.”
The inspector added that Chandrasekhar harassed Deepika over this and she killed her daughter and died by suicide.
