Most wanted criminal of Bihar, Shahabuddin's sharpshooter arrested in Delhi

One of the most wanted criminals of Bihar and a sharpshooter of late gangster Shahabuddin, Azad Ali, was arrested in Delhi. The accused along with his associates had fired on the convoy of the contestant of the Vidhan Parishad election in April.

The special cell of Delhi Police (Southern Range) in a joint operation with the Special Task Force (STF) of Bihar arrested one of the most wanted criminials of the state from Delhi. The accused, identified as Azad Ali (43), is a sharshooter of Siwan's strongman late Shahabuddin and has been involved in six criminal cases, including two murders.

According to police, Azad along with his associates had fired on the convoy of the contestant of the Vidhan Parishad election in Bihar on April 4, 2022 in Siwan. One person was killed and four persons were critically injured in this indiscriminate firing.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police members nabbed Azad Ali on Friday near Raj Ghat Xing at Ring Road, Delhi. Police also recovered a pistol and three live cartridges from the possession of the accused.

Inspector Shiv Kumar had received specific inputs that Ali, who is wanted in multiple criminal cases in Bihar, was hiding in the Delhi-NCR region. A police team was deployed to collect more information about him and technical surveillance was mounted on possible hideouts of the fugitive gangster.

On Friday, police spotted Azad Ali near Ring Road, Rajghat in Delhi, who had arrived to meet one of his associates. Ali sensed the presence of police and tried to escape, but he was cornered by the members of the police team and finally he was nabbed after a brief scuffling. Police have filed a case under the relevant sections of the law and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and a further investigation is underway.

Azad Ali was wanted in a shootout that happened on April 4 in Siwan district of Bihar. Aftab Alam, Osama (son of late gangster Shahabuddin), Azad Ali and their associates had fired indiscriminately with AK47 rifles on the convoy of one Mohammed Rahees Khan when they (victims) were returning to their village after the election.
