Police found the woman's dead body in a decomposed state with Sai, her mentally unstable son, beside her. They opened the house after neighbours complained about a foul smell emanating from the flat on Saturday, May 14.
The deceased was identified as 50-year-old Vijaya Vani. She along with her son, Venkat Sai, were living in an apartment building under the Malkajgiri police station limits of the Rachakonda commissioner zone in Hyderabad.
Police have registered a case and the dead body was sent for postmortem while the son was taken into custody for questioning.
Police suspect that Sai, who is a B Tech graduate, had a hand in the death of his mother. Officers investigating the case are waiting for the post mortem reports.
