Mega tree plantation and awareness programmes in Dindigul, Theni, and Sivaganga districts to increase green cover.
Mega tree plantation and awareness programmes were conducted in Dindigul, Theni and Sivaganga districts on Friday with the main objective to increase the green cover and create awareness on the environment.
The event was organised by the respective District Legal Services Authorities. Madras High Court Judge Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan presided over the programme held at Sakkanthi in Sivaganga district.
The judge spoke about the importance of planting trees and protecting the environment. He said that planting the saplings alone was not enough. They should be nurtured with proper care, he added. Over 500 saplings were planted on Sivaganga-Melur road. Sivaganga Collector Asha Ajith, Principal District and Sessions Judge K. Arivoli and Superintendent of Police Ashish Rawat were present.
In Theni, Theni Collector Ranjeet Singh and Principal District and Sessions Judge Swarnam J. Natarajan presided over the event held at the Veterinary College and Research Institute and at the Government Higher Secondary School in Koduvilarpatti.
Around 250 saplings were planted. Earlier, saplings were planted in the grounds near the District Rural Development Agency and the new court building complex in Andipatti.
In Dindigul, the officials said that they have planned to plant around 1,000 saplings. Sessions Judge P. Velmurugan presided over the awareness camp held in St. Antony’s College of Arts and Science in Thamaraipadi.
As part of the event, a legal awareness camp was held and 100 saplings were planted on the college premises. Over 200 saplings were distributed to the public to create awareness Judicial officers, Revenue, Forest and other Department officials were present. Professors and students also participated in the awareness event.
